Where it all began

A family of koi fish

At Lucky Koi, our story begins with a small backyard pond and a family's love for koi fish. What started as three koi grew into a cherished collection, teaching us a profound lesson about resilience and transformation.

Our Inspiration: The Koi Dragon Legend

The ancient legend of the koi fish climbing the waterfall resonates deeply with our journey. Like the determined koi that spent a century struggling against powerful currents, we believe in perseverance and the power of unwavering determination. When most koi turn back defeated by the waterfall's might, one brave fish continues its journey, ultimately transforming into a magnificent golden dragon - a symbol of triumph over adversity.

More Than Just Luck.

In naming our company Lucky Koi, we wanted to reflect not just the luck associated with these magnificent fish but also to challenge the misconception that success is merely a matter of chance. We named ourselves Lucky Koi not because of chance, but to challenge the misconception that success is mere luck. Our name honors the hard work, creativity, and resilience behind every artistic endeavor. Just as the koi represents strength, courage, and personal transformation, we pour that same spirit into every handcrafted piece we create.

Our Promise.

Every piece at our studio is 100% handmade, crafted with passion, and carefully packaged with love. We invite you to explore our collection, embrace your journey of transformation, and discover the art that speaks to your soul.

Meet the Artist

Melana Byars is the visionary artist and founder of Lucky Koi Entertainment, where she merges multiple artistic disciplines to create captivating narratives. With a rich background in animation, ceramics, film, music, storytelling, and visual arts, Melana's work is a testament to her passion for storytelling. Since beginning her artistic journey at the age of five, she has continuously explored various mediums, including singing and writing, which remain integral to her creative expression.

Driven by a desire to amplify the voices of POC artists, Melana embarked on a career as a screenwriter, director, animator, and producer. She recognized a significant gap in the representation of her community's stories and has dedicated herself to addressing this through her art. In addition to her storytelling prowess, Melana is a classically trained violinist with 18 years of experience and also plays the bass.

Her artistic pursuits have led her back to ceramics, a passion she first discovered at the age of eight when she tried wheel-throwing alongside her mother. After taking several art and animation courses to refine her skills in visual storytelling, Melana reignited her ceramics journey in 2022 and has since produced an impressive collection of ceramic pieces available for purchase in our shop.

At Lucky Koi, Melana continues to rotate new works and stories, ensuring that her audience is always treated to fresh and engaging content.
